Floodplains Eco-Cabin
Location: Christmas Bay, Texas
Role: Project Architect
Use: Residential
The Eco-Cabin is completely self-sufficient.
PV panels and a wind generator produce enough power to run all the electrical systems; solar water heating panels provide hot water; 100% of rain water is collected and stored in above ground cisterns, and 100% of grey water is treated.
The design has taken in consideration hurricane force winds and tides. The platform is supported by a tensegrity structure that reduces lateral forces during high tides. All windows are protected with louvers that act as sun screens during the hot summer months and provide security while the cabin is uninhabited and during storms. The tensile awning is built of recycled sailcloth.
