Sustainable Island Residence

Location: Nevis Island, St. Kitts

Role: Project Architect

Use: Residential

This minimalist house is nestled on a high-sloped site on the island of Nevis overlooking St. Kitts and the Caribbean Sea.

The large suspended pergolas and horizontal louvers keep the direct sunlight out, while never blocking the magnificent views. Stucco and local stone walls support the soaring roofs that create high interior volumes naturally ventilated by openings on different levels of both the windward and leeward sides. The master suite is a separate bungalow providing privacy and allowing for additional views.

The house is powered by solar panels, 100% of rainwater is collected in cisterns underneath the decks, and waste water is treated to irrigate the garden. The structure and its fenestration's are custom designed for hurricane winds and seismic forces.
