Miami World Center - Phase I
Location: Miami, Florida
Role: Project Designer
Use: Retail Shopping Center
Owner: The Forbes Company
Completed 2017
I was responsible for the design of the first phase of this multi-phased development, which consisted of a horizontal retail podium meant to seamlessly connect with the surrounding urban fabric. The interior retail galleries created a network of lively enclosed streets and public spaces that culminated in a distinctive pedestrian destination.
I started by introducing a space-frame trussed skylight to flood the area with natural light. To enhance the acoustics and lighting, I added curved acoustic tiles, which refract both natural and artificial light while dampening the sounds typical of large retail spaces.
The design of the three atriums was central to drawing people into the retail spaces and creating ‘instagram moments’. I custom-designed striking geometric ceiling panels, elegant water features, and interactive LED screens, all of which came together to form vibrant activity hubs.
Additionally, I designed the promenade, integrating custom fixed furniture into the landscape and working closely with the interiors team to ensure the paving patterns and design elements blended seamlessly into a unified aesthetic.
